Fieldwork methods: cross-cultural differences among indigenous communities in Peru
Presented as part of the CoEDL-ANU Linguistics Seminar Series
Conducting research across indigenous communities with cross cultural differences presents various challenges at a personal and methodological level. In this talk we will share our previous experiences working with Quechua, and Ashaninka communities in Peru. This is part of a larger project that focuses on the continuum between monolingualism and bilingualism in indigenous languages and Spanish. We will present in an interactive manner the different methodologies we have used to collect bilingual Spanish and monolingual indigenous data with the purpose of learning from other researchers and community members doing fieldwork or action research in similar continua of contexts.
