2018 Language Placement Tests

2018 Language Placement Tests
Wednesday 17 January 2018

A language placement test is used to determine the most appropriate level of language study for you. If you've had any previous experience with the language you want to study, even if you think it might not be relevant or was too long ago, you need to sit a placement test.

Relevant past experience include:

  • Previous study of the language
  • Being exposed to the language in childhood
  • Travel or living in a country where the language is spoken
  • The language being spoken in your home (even if you don’t speak it)

For placement into language programs beginning in Semester 2, 2018, please note the following:

Ancient Greek and Latin

Most students begin their study of Ancient Greek and Latin with Traditional Grammar (CLAS1001/2011/6001).  If you have prior experience with either language, please contact Dr Chris Bishop to discuss appropriate placement.

French, German, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish

Entry into the French, German, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish programs requires a placement test and will be subject to approval from the program convener. To register your interest in taking an on-line placement test, please send an email including your student ID number to SLLL administration: admin.slll@anu.edu.au.
