Monday 10 September 2018
SLLL Lecturer, Dr Beatrice Bijon along with Associate Professor Martin Thomas (ANU School of History) have been awarded $100,000 from Screen Australia’s Producers Equity Program.
The talented duo are co-directors and producers of the upcoming Australian Documentary Etched In Bone. The film, due for release in October, looks at the fraught issue of indigenous remains collected in the past and held in international institutions. It follows the repatriation of remains of the Gunbalanya people in Australia’s remote north.
A feature article in the August 2018 edition of ANU Reporter looks at the film, the controversy, and the remarkable relationship of trust built between indigenous community and filmmakers, essential to revealing and telling this story.
