Dr Rooney is the editor of Australian Humanities Review and has published widely on Australian film and literature, with a particular focus on melodrama and other popular genres. In 2023, as Nancy Keesing Fellow at the State Library of NSW, she is researching the papers of New Zealand-Australian author Ruth Park in preparation for writing a literary biography.
