Carus became emperor in AD 282 and in 283 at Antioch he gave the title ‘Augustus’ to each of his sons Carinus and Numerianus. Carus died in AD 283 after capturing Ctesiphon (Parthia) and Numerianus died on the return journey in 284.

The Victory celebrates the campaign of Carus and Probus against the Parthians: hence the legend ‘virtue/valour of the (two) Augusti’. Cf. reverse on 66.65.

The coin was struck at Antioch. B signifies the workshop at that mint.
