Rev.: On right Jupiter standing l., naked except for cloak behind left shoulder, with a sceptre in his left hand, offers with his right hand a Victory on a globe to the emperor on the left who stands r. in military dress, short sceptre in left hand. CLEMENTIA TEMP(orum).

Probus had considerable military successes on the Rhine and Danube frontiers. His victories here are associated with the ‘clemency of the times’. The types on his coins are much more varied than on those of his recent predecessors.

The coin was struck at the mint of Antioch. The A indicates which of the workshops at that mint was responsible.
