Attic Black-Figure Lip Cup. A and B: in the lip-zone, a ram feeding, left, with below in the handle-band, a meaningless inscription of ten and of fifteen letters. Lines mark the top of the lip and the offset below. Purple-red was added on the necks and tails of both rams and for stripes near their hindquarters. The lower wall is painted solid but for a reserved band; the stem and foot are black except for the edge of the foot which is reserved as is the underside.

Attic Black-Figure Lip Cup

Purchased. Ht 13.9cm; diam. 21.3cm.

Reconstructed from fragments. The right handle is restored; the neck and tail of the ram on side B have been retouched. There is also some repainting of the black.

A and B: in the lip-zone, a ram feeding, left, with below in the handle-band, a meaningless inscription of ten and of fifteen letters. Lines mark the top of the lip and the offset below. Purple-red was added on the necks and tails of both rams and for stripes near their hindquarters. The lower wall is painted solid but for a reserved band; the stem and foot are black except for the edge of the foot which is reserved as is the underside.

Inside: a reserved band immediately within the lip, and in the centre, a reserved disc decorated with a black circle.

About 540-530 BC.
