Black glaze, showing signs of burning about the spout from use. Mould made, with pointed wick spout, the discus decorated with the figure of a man seated while fishing. He lifts the rod with his right hand; there is a fish on the end of the line.  Part of the spout has been restored.

Black glaze, showing signs of burning about the spout from use. Mould made, with pointed wick spout, the discus decorated with the figure of a man seated while fishing. He lifts the rod with his right hand; there is a fish on the end of the line.  Part of the spout has been restored.
Ex English collection acquired c. 1980. Compare S. Loerschcke, Lampen aus Vindonissa (plate IX, 103.7). 
This type of lamp is uncommon. Although fishing scenes are known, these usually form part of larger compositions rather than the main subject.
