Sicilian Banded Stemless Cup - 1966.08

Acquisition number: 1966.08

Intact but the surface is a little worn in places. Cream-buff clay. Ring foot; sharply offset lip. Red-brown paint. On the inside is a band between lines and a small central circle. The lip has a band on its inner and on its outer face. There is a further band on the wall just below the level of the handles. The ends of the handles were painted by dipping them in the glaze.

Sicilian Banded Stemless Cup

From the Woite Collection; probably from the area of Gela, Sicily. Ht 4.3cm; diam. 10.1cm.

Intact but the surface is a little worn in places. Cream-buff clay. Ring foot; sharply offset lip. Red-brown paint. On the inside is a band between lines and a small central circle. The lip has a band on its inner and on its outer face. There is a further band on the wall just below the level of the handles. The ends of the handles were painted by dipping them in the glaze.
