Small Glass Bowl

On loan from the National Gallery of Australia.

Optically-blown (?) small cup with everted, cracked-off rim. Olive yellowish, possibly from Egypt. Although the fabric is common in Egypt, such small ribbed bowls are found in Italy and the Adriatic regions as small versions of Rippenschalen. It is more likely to be late first than fourth century AD.

National Gallery of Australia.
