Other images

Small terracotta head, profile.

Broken at the neck from a figurine and preserving the front part. There are considerable signs of wear but something of the original surface is preserved on the forehead above the nose, and in some crevices, a little of the white slip remains, but no colouring survives. The facial features, however, are clear, as is the modelling of the hair.

Soft reddish brown clay: Egyptian. Perhaps more likely a boy than a girl, but it is hard to be sure.

Soft reddish brown clay: Egyptian. Perhaps more likely a boy than a girl, but it is hard to be sure. For comparable heads of children, see F. Dunand, Musée du Louvre, département des antiquités égyptiennes. Terres cuites gréco-romaines d’Egypte (Paris 1990) nos. 771ff.; but perhaps like the bronze weight 2004.01 to be taken as Harpokrates.

Presented to the ANU Classics Museum by Dr and Mrs S. Dyer.

Acquired by the Dyers in about 1976-1978 from the Antiquities and Ethnographica Society (Mary Martin Bookshop, Adelaide).

Unpublished.
