Squat Lekythos.
Intact. Pinkish buff clay. Black glaze, worn and flaking about the mouth. There is a moulding at the junction of the inner face of the foot and the underside of the floor. The neck is offset.
The body is covered with a reticulate arrangement of lines with white dots at the intersections and with further dots at the shoulder to make four consistent rows. There are black and white tongues on the neck. The mouth and the top of the handle were dipped. There is no band on the foot: the black marks are from the brush making the strokes on the body. Probably Attic, of the second quarter or middle of the fourth century BC. The type was produced in some quantity in Athens and variant versions were made over much of South Italy, especially Campania. Compare those from Olynthos: D.M. Robinson et al., Excavations at Olynthus (Baltimore 1929-52), Olynthus XIII, pll. 102 and 107-8.
