Stirring Rod

Purchased. Length 19.1cm.

Repaired. Opaque purplish-black glass with no visible flaws. The rod is spirally twisted and bent into a circular handle at one end; there is a flattened terminal at the other.

Probably first century AD. Such rods are not uncommon, and most are of much the same size. Compare for example R.S. Bianchi (ed.), Reflections on Ancient Glass from the Borowski Collection, Bible Lands Museum, Jerusalem (Mainz 2002) 289 nos GR-13a-c (colour ill.).
