The University College London Centre for Applied Linguistics excels in research and teaching in the broad field of applied linguistics, including healthcare communication.

Their recent work in health communication includes ethnographic studies on inter-professional communication, surgical education and clinical decision making in the operating theatre, and corpus linguistic and discourse analytic studies of both communication in research trials and the phenomenology of illness and healthcare, exploring the language of patients, carers and healthcare professionals.
