ANU FAAIA Annual Fundraising Dinner

The ANU Friends of the Australian Archaeological Institute at Athens (FAAIA) cordially invites you to their Annual Fundraising Dinner:

'The Iliad As It Should Be - Live and Loud': Readings by William Zappa from his dynamic adaptation of Homer’s Iliad

William Zappa, (“Half Greek, half English, all Australian”) has a career that has crossed continents and spanned five decades of elite performances in film, television, and theatre. He has played major roles for Sydney Theatre Company, Melbourne Theatre Company, Bell Shakespeare, Ensemble, Belvoir Street, State Theatre of South Australia, and Griffin. At the FAAIA dinner he will perform extracts from a monumental work-in-progress: he is writing an adaptation of Homer’s Iliad that lends itself to performance—and that brings a poetic rhythm and an ‘Australian voice’ to this great story, making it accessible to modern audiences. He has read excerpts from his adaptation of the Iliad at the ANU and at Steki Taverna as part of the 2016 Greek Festival of Sydney; in June he gave a reading in Oxford. His version and his performances have been described as ‘lucid, bold, edgy and dynamic’.
