Leading change in the Social Sciences: Fighting Racism & Bigotry - Event Nr. 08: Language & Racism

Leading change in the Social Sciences: Fighting Racism & Bigotry - Event Nr. 08: Language & Racism

This conversation will explore how discrimination against Indigenous languages and speakers of other cultures only serves to perpetuate the stigmatisation and undervaluation of cultural diversity and individual identities.

Linguistic discrimination can severely limit future education and employment opportunities within educational settings. As individuals and institutions, what proactive measures can be taken to address this issue?

Guest speakers:

  • Dr Maureen Gallagher (ANU School of Literature, Languages and Linguistics
  • PhD candidate Rita Agha (Australian National Centre for the Public Awareness of Science)
  • Facilitated by Dr. Karo Moret-Miranda (Lecturer, ANU School of History)

The conversation will conclude with audience Q&A. Light refreshments will be served.
Registration closes: Tuesday 5 March at noon.

This event is supported by ARISE - Anti-Racism, Intersectionality and Social Justice in Education and ANU Residences.
