Please join the ANU Centre for Classical Studies as we contribute to the European Festival of Latin and Greek in an international reading of Homer's Odyssey.
At 10.00am sharp Paris time on Friday 24 March (that is, 8.00pm Canberra time on Friday, 24 March) an international reading of Homer’s Odyssey will begin. In 150 centres across the world, in 20 countries, individuals or groups will each read a single book of the Odyssey—in their own language. It is reported that 42 languages will be represented. The ANU contribution to ‘Odyssey 24’ will be held in the ANU Classics Museum, from 7.30pm. There will be drinks (and seats) for our guests.
Book 19 of the Odyssey will be the ANU’s contribution. The readers are four recent Honours graduates and one current Honours student from the Centre for Classical Studies: Hugo Branley, Elizabeth Koschel, Elle Platt, Emma Steffensen. Avery Andrews (Linguistics) will begin and end the reading.
Our reading will be recorded and loaded onto the Festival’s Facebook and web page; edited segments will be shown in the stunning Roman theatre in Lyon at 2.00pm Paris time.
The ANU contribution will begin with a reception from 7.30pm. The introduction will begin at 7.55pm, so that the performance proper can begin at 8.00pm sharp. The performance should last 45 minutes.
