Friends of the ANU Classics Museum Happy Hour

We invite you to join us in the Museum for our last event of the year.

The attached flyer has details of the Friends Happy Hour, our final event for 2014, to be held on Friday 14th November, at 6pm. We hope many of you will be able to attend and enjoy the programme in this popular early evening time slot. The talks on selected objects from our Museum collection are always most interesting, with this event to feature input by staff of the ANU Centre for Classical Studies.

This evening also provides a chance to present some important information to the FCM group. For this reason, a very brief General Meeting will be convened at the start of the Happy Hour, with the sole business of considering a resolution to amend the Constitution. Some terminology updates are necessary, such as the ‘Centre for Classical Studies’. Recent amendments to our FCM donation system also need to be recognised in the Constitution (A copy of the Constitution, including proposed changes, is attached).

This Happy Hour will be an opportunity to thank Jill Greenwell for her outstanding service to the FCM and to the Museum. As well as giving long service on the Committee, over the last four years Jill has led and mentored the voluntary Guides Group. Earlier this year, she fulfilled a long-standing goal in having the Guides Group conduct its own U3A course, which proved a great success. It is very much to Jill’s credit that the Guides Group is now able to offer courses of this kind.

As we approach the end of the year, we need to think about the future of the Friends and how the Committee manages its affairs. Some long-standing members of the Committee are stepping down at the end of this year, so we need new faces to join the Committee at the 2015 AGM. If you feel you would like to be involved in this rewarding and not overly onerous task, then please contact a Committee member on the night, call the President, Marcel Dimo, on 0451 681 473, or e-mail him at Lesleymarcel@netspeed.com.au

As always, merchandise will be on sale during the evening, as well as raffle tickets with some enticing prizes (see below). We hope you will support these Committee fundraisers for the Museum.
