We extend a cordial welcome to all Friends and their guests to a special event in the museum. We will be hosting the Friends of the Drill Hall Gallery who are currently homeless while the Drill Hall is being refurbished. They hold a regular Friends’ Happy Hour on the last Friday of each month, but since the last Friday of March coincides with Easter we are bringing it forward by one week.
Last winter we were entertained by noted art historian, critic and curator, Terence Maloon, Director of the Drill Hall Gallery, ANU, at our Happy Hour. Terence was delighted to come to our museum and gave a fascinating talk on the use and subsequent recycling of porphyry in ancient, and not so ancient buildings. This year there will be welcome speeches by President Marcel Dimo and Curator Elizabeth Minchin and a response by Terence.
The Friends of the Drill Hall Gallery are excited about visiting and learning about the Classics Museum, and have offered to help out with the catering! It will be a great opportunity for the two Friends groups who support the ANU to mingle and interact. There is already some crossover between the groups, and we would always welcome new Friends for the museum.
Do come along, bring friends and help the committee to host our guests. Note the earlier start time of 5.30, a compromise with the usual Drill Hall starting time of 5pm – and designed to suit parking arrangements in Ellery Crescent.
A gold coin donation to help offset catering costs would be appreciated, and our range of museum related merchandise will be on sale.
The Committee would like to thank all Friends for their continuing support.
