Friends of the ANU Classics Museum - overview

Attic skyphos, owl and olive sprigs. c. mid 5th cent B.C. From the collection of the ANU Classics Museum.

Established in 1985, the Friends of the ANU Classics Museum aim to promote the interests of the Museum and encourage interest in antiquity in the wider community. The Friends organise public lectures on the culture of the ancient Greek and Roman worlds and its manifestations in our own world, and they host an annual dinner and organize ‘Happy Hours’ in the Classics Museum collection. They raise funds to support the aims and activities of the Classics Museum and its collection.

A round up of the activities of the Friends during 2023 is contained inthe Report of the President, Ros Jackson, to the Annual General Meeting held on 8 February 2024.

The Friends’ Committee has several fund-raising items available for purchase which are unique to the Museum and illustrate objects from the collection.  They include an attractive tote bag, greeting cards and mugs, which can be purchased by either cash or card from the merchandise stand at our events.

The Friends operate as a group under a written constitution which sets out the formal objectives of the group and rules regarding: management of funds, the operation of the Committee of the Friends, and other procedural matters concerning the group.

The Classics Museum offers a range of guided tours and programs facilitated by the Curator and the Volunteer Guides who run a free monthly public tour on the second Friday of each month.
