SLLL people in the 2024 Canberra Writers Festival events

The 2024 Canberra Writers Festival is taking place during 23-27 October in Canberra. Founded in 2016, the festival celebrates literature, ideas, and storytelling in all its forms and provides a platform for both established and emerging writers to share their work and engage with audiences.

This year, several events involving ANU School of Literature, Languages and Linguistics people are on the program, including:

  • Friday 25 Oct, 12:30 PM, NSFA Theatrette, "History Repeating". Emily Maguire, the 2023 HC Coombs Creative Arts Fellow, will discuss her new novel, Rapture.

  • Friday 25 Oct, 3:30PM, NSFA Arc Cinema, "Earning The Risk".  Emily Maguire will be in conversation with Bri Lee on her new novel, Rapture, and literary risk taking.

  • Saturday 26 Oct, 10:00AM, NSFA Arc Cinema, "Get Thee to a Nunnery". Emily Maguire and Charlotte Wood will be in conversation with Kate Mildenhall on writing novels of cloisters.

  • Saturday 26 Oct, 12:30PM, NLA Theatre, "Continuity and Connection". Dr Julieanne Lamond, the Head of SLLL, will be hosting a discussion with Nardi Simpson and Melissa Lucashenko on interwoven narratives.

  • Sunday 27 Oct, 9:00AM, ANU Marie Reay Teaching Centre: Dr Alice Grundy, a recent PhD graduate from SLLL, will be hosting MASTERCLASS: Reinvigorating Creativity.

  • Sunday 27 Oct, 12:30PM, NSFA Theatrette, "Reading Praiseworthy". Dr Julieanne Lamond will be in the panel to discuss Alexis Wright’s 740-page monolith Praiseworthy.

  • Sunday 27 Oct, 2:00PM, NLA Theatre, "Drongos, Drop bears and Dictionaries". Dr Amanda Laugesen, Australian National Dictionary Centre (ANDC) Director, will be in a discussion on Aussie argot.

  • Sunday 27 Oct, 2:30PM, NSFA Theatrette, "Your Favourites, Jessie Tu". Jessie Tu will be talking about her second novel, The Honeyeater, with Dr Alice Grundy.
