Dr Francesco De Toni is a Research Fellow at ICH. His research investigates healthcare communication in clinical and digital settings, integrating insight from pragmatics, functional linguistics, and computational linguistics. His work combines qualitative discourse and quantitative methods, with applications to clinical communication, health literacy, and digital health technologies. He has secured over AUD $700,000 in competitive research funding from Australian and European sources, including a Marie Skłodowska‑Curie Individual Fellowship (European Commission) and a postdoctoral fellowship from the Forrest Research Foundation (Australia). His work has contributed to improving communication practices in clinical settings and the integration of digital technologies into healthcare communication, and has been presented to both academic and industry audiences (e.g. WA Digital Health Summit). Francesco also holds appointments as an Innovation Consultant at the South Metropolitan Health Service of Western Australia and as an Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Western Australia.
